Summary: Perform renovations identified during home efficiency assessment that will reduce energy use in client homes. All work is performed under direction of Crew Leader.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Air sealing
- Install all types of insulation throughout home where needed
- Special consideration given to those with wall blow and spray foam experience.
- Weather-strip and seal doors that cause the most heat loss
- Seal other leaks identified during home assessment
- Arrive at job site on time and ready to work
- Attend all mandatory training sessions
- Mandatory Attendance/Punctuality: consistently at work and on time; ensure work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrive at meetings and appointments on time; infractions may lead to termination
- Regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
- Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear
- Regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather)
- Frequently exposed to work in high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock, vibration, and work near moving mechanical parts
- The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
Qualifications:

- One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Special consideration given to graduates of Pacific Northwest Carpenters Institute or Oregon and Southern Idaho Laborers – Employers Training Trust LiUNA
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
- Must pass extensive pre-employment national criminal background check and drug screening
- Valid driver’s license with at least three (3) year’s clean driving record preferred

Carpenter Job Description
$16.80 - $20.44 an hour
The Carpenter is responsible for making repairs to the internal and external structure of residential (and small commercial) buildings and ensuring the buildings are safe and built according to the Energy Trust of Oregon Weatherization Specification manual. Constructs, erects, installs, alters and repairs doors, roofs, walls, windows, exhaust fans, screens, frames, and other items using hand and power tools such as drills, jointers, sanders, saws, and other equipment of the carpentry trade.
Employees in this job function as skilled carpenters that participate in and oversee residential and small business carpentry projects.
SCOPE:
The Carpenter is responsible for the full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry work. The Carpenter will work from specifications, drawings and instructions to design, build, remodel, retrofit and repair various types of structures; inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations; inspect related work by contractors; estimate cost, time and materials for carpentry projects.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. The following duties are listed both as trade specific and shared responsibilities.
- Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete or brick.
- Designs, constructs, retrofits, repairs, weatherize and seal flooring, door and window frames.
- Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal code requirements and reports back to supervisor.
- Modifies and repairs roofing.
- Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs.
- Performs minor electrical repairs
- Installs exhaust fans, ducting and attic ventilation (roof jacks, soffit vents)
- Operates and maintains carpentry tools and equipment
Shared Responsibilities:
- Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.
- May train and direct the work of other classified staff
- Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
- Deal with the client in a positive, courteous and respectful manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates/incumbents must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below.
Education:
Graduation from high school, supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes theory and on-the-job work.
Experience:
Ten years journey-level experience working as a carpenter in a residential, commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting, including rough and finished carpentry.
Preferred:
Experience in weatherization principles (insulation and air sealing).
Lead or Asbestos abatement
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
This classification requires the use of a personal vehicle while conducting business. Must possess a valid (Class C) Oregon driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Ability to complete the following training as required: lock out tag out, fall arrest, confined space, MSDS, asbestos and lead identification/abatement, ladder safety, emergency evacuation, in-house OSHA and respirator training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards as well as environmental hazards such as molds and various solvents.
