Peter Tofalvi

Peter is a Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified energy auditor with an MBA from Marylhurst University.  Peter brings to the table a long history in small business development, but he is equally at home in a large corporate environment.  Originally from Hungary, Peter immigrated to the United States in the early 1990’s with a Bachelors degree in Veterinary Science.  After several years in management of dairy farms, he joined a CO-OP creamery, managing its 117-employee plant. From 1999 to 2006, Peter owned a domestic service  company in Oregon. In 2006, he sold the business to focus on his graduate studies in Business Management. Following a recommendation from a professor, Peter was hired by Daimler Trucks North America – formerly known as Freightliner Corporation - where he served as business analyst and strategic truck parts buyer. As an analyst, he was tasked  with researching and implementing cost-cutting measures, often involving nationwide management  policies and international trade. As a buyer, Peter handled $95 million in annual purchases.

Having grown up in Eastern Europe, where energy prices are traditionally 3-4 times as high as in the U.S.,  Peter brings with him a keen sense of the importance of conserving resources. He is passionate about promoting energy efficiency and sustainable living.  Portland Energy Savers.com is the fruition of his dream to bring homeowners together with building science and energy efficiency experts to make homes more efficient and environmentally friendly.

Jim Plantico

Jim Plantico is a former marketing professional, furniture builder and enthusiastic cook with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Oregon.  Jim’s passion for energy efficiency was realized soon after he and his wife purchased their first home, a 1950’s ranch in SW Portland.  During the first winter their heating bills went through the roof.  Jim tried to find the answer by hiring a home inspector and then an energy auditor.  On investigation they found several air leaks, improper duct work and a lack of insulation throughout the house.  To fix the problems Jim had to call several contractors, each with their own specialty and coordinate the work.  During the process he thought there had to be a better way and from this bore Abacus Energy Solutions, LLC - a comprehensive one contact solution to energy improvements to the home.  Jim likes to call it “white glove service at work glove prices”.  Jim continues to make improvements to his house, most recently with the addition of a black lab, “Bella”.
